Barb is from SLC UT and received her Bachelor of Science in Public Health and shortly after graduation received her credentials as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified Group Fitness Instructor, Certified Personal Trainer and additional fitness certifications (Spinning, Kick Boxing, Mat Science, Stretching, and more). She was in the process of pursuing her masters in nutrition and running her fitness business when her second child regressed into severe autism and developed several other disorders and co-morbidities seemingly overnight. Some of her son’s additional diagnoses include PANDAS/PANS, autoimmune encephalopathy, Epstein bar syndrome, and mitochondrial disorder. Her son’s regression and additional diagnoses changed her path of study and her passion. After over 20 years of visiting a variety of specialists, medical testing, genetic testing, autism research, and seeking every credible therapy treatment option available for her son, Barb found a new passion for biomedical research, functional nutrition, functional and integrative medicine, and behavior change. Barb is a member of the Bioindivdual Nutrition Institute and has successfully completed their Foundations Courses. She is currently finishing up her studies with the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy (IFN) and is working towards receiving her Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner Credential (IFNCP) by the end of the year. Additional she currently holds the following certifications; certified Health & Behavior Change Specialist, Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC), ACE Certified Health Coach, Mandt Certified Trainer, and Advanced Brain Technologies The Listening Program (TLP). Barb is a firm believer that a child’s nutrition and environment play a major role in overall health, behavior outcomes, and quality of life. As a parent and full-time caregiver of a medically complex child, Barb has seen the significant impact diet, lifestyle, quality therapy services with caring providers can make in a child’s life. She uses her motivational interviewing skills, education, and experience as a special needs parent to work with other families and meet parents where they are on their journey. She is a firm believer that parents/caregivers are the experts on their own child and should have a say and buy-in for their child’s therapy program to ensure the best outcome possible for the child. Barb enjoys exercise, sunny days, and spending time with her family (and 3 dogs). She loves all holidays, but her favorite is Halloween. If she has any free or quiet time, she typically can be found studying, doing research, or working on a project for IAT.
